General question is the thread title. Not sure how to obtain pets. Are they purely CYO? Or is there a way to adopt new ones that are made by the artists/site runners?

Pets can be made by purchasing the appropriate CYO item from the Pet Shop!
Currently all pets are CYO, but we have plans for site pets! You can get other users to color pets for you in the CYO Design Trade forum if you don't want to color them yourself, and if you win a pet maker in a site contest, you can get a design from a site artist in the CYO Orders forum. The CYO Orders forum is only for CYO pets and items that were won in a site contest, like the recently-finished 💐3rd Annual Spring Jubilee💐.

Also, baby pets for your avatar can be found in the Market, in the Avatar Shops. Some can be found in the seasonal shops, some in Dream Emporium.
Alright cool. So I bought 2 amber talismans. So, lol, how do I use them now? Trying to figure it out

Go to Top menu Pets => Genus Codex.
Download the psd file of a common pet (anything that mentions the Amber Talisman) and modify it, then save the result as a .png file, OR
Go to forum All Pets Considered => CYO Design Trade and ask for a colouring in one of the threads there.
Once you have the finished picture, go to Top menu Pets => CYO Adult Pet Upload and follow the instructions there.
