Fortuna

This forest is an old one. Older than most know, other than the trees themselves, of course. It has been here since the beginning, and this tree was there to see it. It held the memory of the years in its rings, the records of kingdoms and peoples, available for reading by those able and willing. When fire ravaged the forest, it did not succumb. The heat spiraled within, did damage and erased some memories, but lived on, though, and healed with time. While it's branches had housed birds, squirrels, and other forest creatures, now a new creature had taken up residence.
This new companion built inside and outside, carefully creating a new home inside this ancient being. The life that pulsed in bark and sap whispered in the dark, telling stories that had long faded from the world's memory. It's a quiet home. An unassuming home. And yet it invites you in, promising warmth and rest and maybe something more.
As you enter the home, you are greeted with a warm smile from a pair of strangely dressed women. Suddenly, in unison they beckon you to step inside by twitching and convulsing across the floor, in what you can only assume is supposed to be a dance, until they stop in front of a cauldron of shimmering gold. For a moment you aren't sure if you should follow or flee, but then they begin to speak, trading words in practiced rhythm, "Please come in and rest your feet. We've prepared a special treat. Dip your hands into our brew and try to claim something new!"

You reach your hands into the cauldron, expecting to feel something gooey, slimey, or sticky. Instead you grasp onto a handful of solid objects. When you pull your hands away you can clearly see that you are holding...

As you exit the house, counting your coin, you look up, feeling as if you're being watched. You notice in the trees nearby, a slender figure is standing in the shadows. It has large black eyes and appears to be wearing...a sheet? The being tilts its head to the side and looks over your head for a moment. Its eyes seem to get wider and it releases a shrill "Oooo oooo!" while pointing with its sheeted arm at something behind you. You turn around quickly to see what it was. As you do so, something inside of you tells you to duck. You hear the sound of a few objects making contact with the side of the house and the sheeted person making what sounds like a laughing noise made of oo's as it floats away. Hopefully you all ducked fast enough...
