Oiiiiii. I know the big head dolly pattern I bought has some problems, but not as many as that Chase pattern. But this book. This was a PUBLISHED AND BOUND book, in a kit in a fancy box! And the designs were easy things that I could eyeball make, but I wanted to work on following a pattern, because kits are fun for me. And yeah. Wow no.

I got good feedback from a lady who looked at my stitching on the bunny I made. That made me feel good. It was nice to have someone look at the stitches instead of just the doll, and talk about that instead of saying it's cute. Though with my difficulty making doll faces, it's good to know he's cute! LOL

I have to fight some lightweight green yarn though. Have to suck it up next month and make a trip on the train to Michael's to see if I can find that yarn, because I want to make flower dollies. I already have the head of one made, and am giving myself eyestrain longing to make the rest of it (autistic fixation on things).

Someone today asked me why I buy crochet dolls or other dolls if I can make them. I said one, because I stink at faces. And two, a different artist gives a different look to dolls, and I don't like sames.

very true!
one thing that's always interesting to see is when there's a crochet-a-long, where everyone follows the same pattern - but the results are as varied as the people who are making the item. on ravelry, it's always interesting to see what other people's projects on the same pattern look like. it's quite amazing, really.

Ugh, in other words, I'm feeling bummed out. Someone gave me enough dreamshards to use, and then I went and bought the wrong item for the pet I'd like to have. I don't suppose anyone wants to buy a jade talisman from me so I can buy the thing for a unicorn?

I have a skein of multicolored yarn that I've been intending to turn into a scarf as long as I've owned it. I know exactly what pattern I want to use because I've already used it once for a different scarf. I just have to Actually Do It.

I'm making a succulent pillow/cushion for my younger daughter as part of her birthday gifts. i might make it again for the older daughter too! I'll post a pic (or link) when I'm done

@Demyx , I have a pattern for a MERMAID scarf. I'm looking forward to making that some day but I don't know what it will be made with yet. Do you knit or crochet?

@trystan , I'm working now on a flower doll from 'Amigrumi in the Garden' from the 'Gourmet Crochet' series. It's easy to see this is an older pattern, because it explains that you do NOT turn the work at the end of a row. lol Back before amigrumi was what most people think of when they think of crochet dolls. https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/CraftyIntentions This is the shop where I got the mushroom pattern.

oh that's interesting, Tam! one of the first things I made was an amigurumi, and that was only back at the beginning of 2012! :O

@trystan , I bought this pattern in 2013. Amigrumi was still newish then. I've been crocheting dolls since before crocheting toys on the round was thought of, and it took me a while to be able to do the rounds.

I finished the flower doll. SO much sewing together. The poor little thing's on the dolls for others pile now. She's cute, but just not mine. Hopefully her cheery little expression will cheer someone up some day.

hmm. the patterns i first started with was making the amis in the round. then again, the very first one I made was using a pattern with British terminology and I didn't know there was a difference. it said "dc" and I said "I know those - they're double crochet stitches!" and so the toy (Cthulhu) was huge! and the head was floppy. and I posted it on a board somewhere on ravelry, and it turned out the pattern designer was also on that board, and they helped me out as best they could, and I think it was when I finally posted a pic that they were all "OH! i used British terminology.... oops. a British dc is an American sc. sorry about that." and it was then that it all clicked into place for me. but that was in 2012.
